Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of India's most important wildlife sanctuaries and the oldest as well as largest tiger reserve in Maharashtra. Located in the Chandrapur district, it was formed by combining Tadoba National Park (established in 1955) and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. The reserve is named after the local tribal deity Tadoba (or Taru) and the Andhari River that flows through the region.
The reserve is famous for its rich biodiversity and high density of Bengal Tiger. Besides tigers, it is home to leopards, sloth bears, gaur, wild dogs, deer, crocodiles, and more than 190 species of birds. Its dry deciduous forests, bamboo groves, lakes, and grasslands provide an ideal habitat for wildlife.
Tadoba is a popular destination for wildlife tourism and safari experiences, attracting thousands of nature lovers and photographers every year. The reserve plays a vital role in tiger conservation and ecological balance in central India.
